Mrs. Laura StachnikMiddle School Teacher
I have been teaching at St. Matthias since the fall of 2018. I have a degree from the University of Wisconsin- Madison in Elementary Education. I started my career in middle school in MPS, and then worked as a substitute teacher in nearby suburbs, while finding my way here. I knew I would like my own classroom again. The paths that lead me to St. Matthias have been very rewarding. I look forward to many more years in our St. Matthias community.
In our 7th and 8th grade middle school, we are a community of learners that value each other’s’ ideas. We have conversations about novels, short stories, nonfiction articles, history, and scientific discoveries. We debate and challenge our ideas, then research to explore more. Through writing of essays and responses, we also share our information with others. This active, safe, engaging learning environment encourages risk-taking, problem-solving, teamwork, and independent thinking to accomplish our academic goals. In my English Language Arts classes, we dive in to reading materials to really expand our knowledge of language, literature, informational texts, and online resources. My goal is that each student is successful in high school and beyond in all subject areas since they all require reading and writing. With our added use of technology, we are ready to be the next generation. I hope to foster life-long learners. It is an exciting place to be.
