Project Lead The Way

Project Lead the Way, Gateway
We are excited to offer the STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) program within our science program for grades 6, 7, & 8. Our PLTW teacher, Mr. Dalen Heinzen, has been trained to teach this program. Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is the leading provider of rigorous and innovative STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education curricular programs used in schools. The hands-on, project-based program engages students on multiple levels, exposes them to areas of study that they typically do not pursue, and provides them with a foundation and proven path to college and career success.

Gateway is intended for grades six through eight and is offered as independent year-long units that include an introduction to engineering for grade 6, design & modeling in grade 7, and automation & robotics in grade 8. The activities-oriented curriculum challenges and engages the natural curiosity of students. Gateway units, taught in conjunction with a rigorous academic curriculum, are designed to spark an interest in STEM subjects and prepare students for further study in high school. Gateway is a natural lead into PLTW’s Pathway To Engineering and Biomedical Sciences Programs at the secondary level.
