The Holy Eucharist is one of the sacraments of initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord’s own sacrifice by means of the Eucharist.
First Eucharist is usually celebrated in the second grade in spring. This preparation includes ongoing formation in the Sunday Morning Program and in St. Matthias School, who work in partnership with the home.
Preparation for this sacrament is family-centered. Children receive a book to complete at home with their parent(s) and family. There is a Blessing during Mass to begin the process in January. There are two Parent/Child sessions and an interview with the Parish Director. The preparation program includes prayer, Scripture and sacramental craft projects. Before the weekend celebration of First Eucharist, the families attend a rehearsal evening. First Eucharist is celebrated at parish Masses on a weekend in late April/early May.
If your child is beyond second grade and would like to prepare to receive their First Eucharist, contact the Parish Office at 414-321-0893.
Registration form and calendar come out in the fall of each year. Check out the Faith Formation Page for more details.
